From Pilot Grove, it was only 24 miles to Sedalia, home of the Missouri State Fair. And that is where we camped on the fairgrounds. Sedalia offered 496 acres to the general assembly in 1901 and won the bid to become the home of the state fair. Many buildings are on the national historic register.Continue reading “Katy Trail – Day 6”

Katy Trail – Day 5
Good cell service here at the city park in Pilot Grove (Yay!) and a dollar store and convenience store too. We rode about 40 miles yesterday. Explored Boonville. Daniel Boone lived in this area the last two decades of his life. Here are pics from yesterday.
Days 2-4
Yum! Stopped now at a trail side cafe for breakfast after having to stealth camp last night. Someone on the trail told us there was camping at the trail head, however none was to be found. I spoke with the Ranger there and she said nope, no camping here, move on. Having cycled almost 50Continue reading “Days 2-4”
Katy Trail – Starting Out
Our first night 40 miles out on the Katy Trail. Rode thru lots of shaded forest, along the wide Missouri, then wetlands and finally large expanses of corn and soybeans. It’s hot, but cold front coming to cool things off after possible severe weather tomorrow. Camping in the town ball field with lots of youthContinue reading “Katy Trail – Starting Out”
Home Again
Arrived home yesterday and walked in my front door thinking “Wow, this is a nice Air BnB!” It is good to be home! A walk this morning with Sherpa to a part of town I had not been to in a while made me appreciate the familiar as well as realize new sights and adventureContinue reading “Home Again”
Cajas National Park
It’s been a good day in Cuenca! The first order of business was to get a covid test for re entry into the US. There’s not a lot of information where they are available online, sort of crazy considering the number of people who need to get them to travel. I found a clinic nearContinue reading “Cajas National Park”
Travel Day
Today was a travel day. To get to the airport, one must take a bus, take a ferry, take another bus. The airport is located on Baltra island. The US built a WWII runway there to mainly protect the Panama Canal. So, the transport shuffle went surprisingly smooth and I arrived with plenty of time.Continue reading “Travel Day”
Bike Ride to Lava pit, Tortoise ranch and a Brewery
Today a bike rental was in order to explore some of the island. Los Gamelos, or The Twins, is in the highlands and are basically two huge deep pits where lava cooled and contracted, then the tops collapsed in. It felt and looked like a rain forest there, especially with mist and light rain comingContinue reading “Bike Ride to Lava pit, Tortoise ranch and a Brewery”
Diving on Santa Cruz Island
Got in to Puerto Ayora yesterday morning, took a nap, toured the Charles Darwin Research Station, found a great brewery, went diving today and saw lots of sharks (no hammerheads ), rays, an eel eating a sea snake and lots of fish . Can’t wait to get pics and videos off my GoPro, stay tuned.
Exploring Isabela Island
TodayI took a boat and snorkel tour to Los Tuneles or tunnels which lies about 15 miles to the east of town. As always, the boat ride was thrilling as we surged through 6-10 foot swells. The best part was at the end when we had to exit where the waves were breaking. We bobbedContinue reading “Exploring Isabela Island”
